100th Anniversary
About Jamboree Contigents
Ceylon
Ceylon was represented by 23-6 Scouters, 4 Rover Scouts, and 12 Scouts at the Jamboree out of which 7 served on the International G.H.Q. Staff.

The Contingent Leader was Mr. E.W.Kannangara.

The Contingent left Ceylon on the 15th of July by ship and after visiting Egypt flew to Athens on the 29th of July.

The experience gained by the Contingent at Marathon was very rich. Ceylon was able to contribute towards the various activities and displays at the Jamboree. The Scouts had excellent opportunities of exchanging ideas, souvenirs and badges. All the Scouts from Ceylon were selected for the ‘Laurel Award’ for reaching a high standard in camping.

On the return journey, the Contingent visited Italy, France, England and Spain. The most valuable experience they gained in England during their short visit at Gilwell Park and attending the “Training-the-Team” Course.

C.J.S. Daniel, Deputy Contingent Leader
